Tetsujin Hamono is a collaboration project between Tora Tomura and Myojin Naohito in Tosa in Kochi prefecture Shikoku Island, Japan.ย
Tora-san forges an aogami 2 carbon steel and wrought iron blade that Naohito-san givesย a convex hamaguri grindย withย an elegant hazy finish on the wrought iron and a bright near mirror finish on the aogami 2 hagane core. This is a much different material than is typically found on mild steel or iron clad carbon steel knives.ย
Wrought iron is a non-homogenous material and this finish brings out all of it’s complexity, please note that this includes an irregular surface unlike a pattern welded damascus or suminagashi.ย
Being non-stainless care must be taken to avoid rust, do not soak or leave food on knife. A dark patina is expected to form on the blade with use.ย
